Cleveland County 4-H had a great time on Thursday, August 23rd, hosting their first ever 4-H Family Fun Night! The County Council Officer team, led by Anna Marie Vagnozzi, wrote a proposal for a Hungry to Help Project, and were awarded a State Council mini grant at Citizenship Focus 2012. Admission to the Fun Night was one canned food item per person, and included an evening filled with games, food, music, and door prizes. The county officers invited 4-H'ers from other counties, as well as opened the event to the public. The Fun Night had a great turnout, with 73 people in attendance and 110 food items collected, making it the most successful event Cleveland County 4-H has ever had!

Law and Order - Forsyth County

Nathan Barrick and Brandon Joyce taught “Law and Order”, a citizenship workshop, to youth in their
county as part of Forsyth County’s 4-H Summer Adventures program in July 2010. The workshop
included parliamentary procedures training, elections, and a mock trial.

Cabarrus County 4-H’ers Ella Beth Wickliff and Taylor Furr have worked diligently since Citizenship Focus 2011 to create a Cabarrus County Youth Council. After learning the steps to create a council and presenting the idea to commissioners, the Cabarrus County Youth Council is now a reality. Members were appointed by commissioners February 21. Members include two representative from each high school in the county, plus two at-large member, for a total of 18. The purpose of the group is to identify issues facing young people in the county, work directly with commissioners on these issues and educate others about local government. Issues have been identified and the group is working on a PSA to recruit open positions and raise awareness of the Youth Council.

Citizenship Workshop

Carteret County 4-H'ers, Rosa Shanton and Hannah Davis, planned a citizenship workshop for March 26, where they hope to encourage local youth to get involed with citizenship projects/activities and share the importance of local and state governance.

Goody bags sent to VA Hospital

Coy Tschudy from Yancey county delivering goody bags to the Va Hospital.Coy Tschudy said that he wanted to give the veterans a small token of appreciation for what they have done for our country.

Perquimans County 4-H Voter Registration Drive

Perquimans County 4-H'ers worked with the Perquimans County Board of Elections to hold a voter registration drive on September 15th at Perquimans County High School.  4-H Members who helped were Amber Winslow, Sarah Stevenson, and Kelisha White.  All three girls attended NC Citizenship Focus last summer.
